College Scholarships

Below are scholarships available to Scouts in the Texas Southwest Council.

Created in 2010

Deserving student who was an Eagle Scout from the Texas Southwest Council.

It has awarded 10 scholarships to date, totaling $5,300 since 2010. Currently awarding $600 a year. The
application is open each year starting January 1 st till March 1 st and can be accessed through the San
Angelo Area Foundation website through the scholarship link. www.saafound.org/scholarships

One of the application questions will ask if the applicant is a member of Scouting and then asks if they
have achieved the rank of Eagle from a Troop in the Texas Southwest Council. These applicants are then
considered for the Marcus Young Scholarship (along with other scholarships) the SAAF administer, which
usually means you get the chance for other scholarship as well!

Budget: $600.00

All Texas Southwest Council Eagle Scouts should complete the application available at
www.saafound.org/scholarships and attending any after high school educational institutions.

Deserving student who was a Scout, going to Angelo State University

Given by Dorothy Buttery Olson in memory of her Eagle Scout brother, who died with
double pneumonia at a young age. She has a daughter in the GS gold award wall too.

Budget: $351.10

Worthy students who are Scouts, going to Angelo State University

Clarence was a scoutmaster in Menard and worked for the Menard newspaper and later for
SA times. Dr. Mildred Wiseman was a Spanish teacher in Menard then later taught Spanish
at Goodfellow via ASU.

Save the Date for NESA Scholarship Application Window

 

December 1st the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) starts accepting applications from eligible for the 2024 scholarship season. In 2023, NESA granted scholarships to 69 NESA members awarding over $520,000 in funds. Help spread the word and secure scholarships for Eagle Scouts in your council!

Application Requirements:

• Eagle Board of Review date must be before January 24, 2024

• Eagle Scout must be a member of the National Eagle Scout Association

• May apply for scholarships beginning in senior year of high school through junior year in an undergraduate program or by the halfway point of an associate degree program or skilled trade program 

• Applications must be completed and submitted by 11:59 p.m. CST on January 31, 2024

 

Eagle Scouts who are graduating seniors, citizens of the United States, residents of Texas, and currently enrolled in an accredited Texas high school may apply for the Eagle Scout Scholarship worth $2,500.  Applicants must include a copy of their Eagle Scout Certificate and a description of their project along with personal recommendations.  The application must be submitted to the student’s local Elks Lodge Scholarship Chair no later than January 3. Other non-Eagle Scout Scholarships are also available.
